Metrology is a fundamental concept required for obtaining scientific data and understanding instrumentation. This course is an elective for all Engineering Technology (ET) graduate students. The course introduces key aspects of metrology which can be applied to a variety of engineering technology specializations including electrical, mechanical and aviation. Instrumentation systems are studied including sensors, signal conditioning, data acquisition and analysis. Noise analysis is performed and overall error budgets determined. Magnitude of scale in measurements is studied using macro, micro and nanoscale examples. Permission of department is required. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer.
