This course provides students with an overview of the field of social studies, of selected issues in the field, and of best practice strategies for teaching social studies to children in the K-2 classroom. Students will work to identify the most important social studies knowledge, skills and dispositions; investigate how K-2 children learn social studies most effectively. Students will then use their new understandings to implement lessons, analyzing the effectiveness of their instruction for children in the K-2 grades. Admission to Teacher Education is required.
