This course addresses foundational knowledge in language and linguistics for pre-service teachers and educational researchers. The purpose of this course is to survey linguistics, the study of the science of language. In this course, we will focus on phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. These topics will be discussed in terms of theory, as well as in the context of ESL classroom instruction, materials development, and assessment.
